Brand understanding
Brand consistency: one story everywhere
Why consistency across pages, profiles and sources is what makes a brand trustworthy and understandable, and how to find inconsistencies.
Consistency is a signal of truth
When every page, profile and source tells the same story, people and machines trust it. When the company name, category, tone or contact details vary, each version weakens the others. Inconsistency rarely looks dramatic on any single page; it shows up only when pages are compared.
Where inconsistencies hide
- Different company names in the logo, titles and structured data.
- Pages that describe the company as different kinds of business.
- A tone of voice that changes from page to page.
- Several phone numbers or addresses without explanation.
- Fonts and colors that differ between sections of the site.
How to fix it
Write down the one name, one-sentence definition, category and core facts you want everywhere. Then update titles, headings, footers, structured data and profiles to match. Define three or four voice principles and edit key pages against them.
