Understanding confidence

What High, Medium, Low and Unknown confidence mean, and why uncertainty never lowers a score.

Confidence describes how strongly the evidence supports a conclusion.

  • High: several strong, independent signals agree.
  • Medium: supported, but partly inferred or incomplete.
  • Low: plausible but weakly supported.
  • Unknown: not enough evidence to conclude.

Why it matters

Uncertain evidence weighs less in a score; it is never counted as a failure. A high score resting on thin evidence is not labelled Exceptional.
